Pullman Disposal Service Electronic Waste Recycling There are many dangerous or hazardous chemicals in today's electronic waste (especially computer monitors). Please do not put your old electronic equipment in the trash. Rather, you may bring in your e-waste to our shop from Noon to 4:00 pm Tuesdays through Thursdays to have it disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner. We are now collecting e-waste at no charge (subject to certain limitations) under the auspices of Washington's E-Cycle program administered by the WMMFA. Here are more details of this program: The official website for the program is http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/swfa/eproductrecycle/ Just a couple notes. We are open to the public for e-waste collection from Tuesdays through Thursdays noon to 4:00 pm. [Wednesdays till 5:00]. Our first day for collection consequently was Tuesday, January 6th, 2009. People will need to come to the northwest corner of our shop (or just stop in the office first for directions) to drop off the material. If the official hours do not work for someone's schedule, they can call our office and set up a date and time that will work for the both of us. The number is 334-1914. Not all e-waste is free. Here are the items covered by the state program (this is copied from the web site): * televisions * computers * computer monitors * portable or laptop computers Please note that computer peripherals such as keyboards, mice, and printers, scanners, copiers, etc are not included in this program. Theses other items we will continue to take at 50 cents a pound. The other major limitation is that we are only taking up to ten units per day per family/company. That limitation will probably be dropped after the initial big rush has subsided. This limitation is to try to control the major influx of e-waste that is expected in the first few days or weeks of the program's operation. We are concerned about our capacity to handle the e-waste during those first days. Once we get through the big rush, we will begin to promote the program directly to the public ourselves. This program is for consumers and small businesses, those being businesses with less than 50 employees. Governmental entities are asked to contact us or the state entity first before bringing loads of e-waste as the state has indicated they will want to deal with some of them directly. Please have patience during the beginning of this great new program as we may be working out the kinks ourselves! You can also call us (334-1914) to arrange for a different time or to arrange to have us pick up your e-waste at your home (additional collection fee applies).
Thanks for your assistance in keeping hazardous chemicals out of the environment!! |
