We are now accepting CFL bulbs at our office.  You may drop off your spent CFL bulbs at no charge.

Your spent Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs should not be thrown away due to all the mercury in the bulb.  You may bring them to our office during office hours [Monday through Friday 8:00 to 5:00 pm] for free drop off.  Please limit yourself to two bulbs per visit.  Thank You!!!

Electronic Waste Management

We are now accepting electronic waste for responsible recycling and disposal.  Please contact us before bringing your electronic waste to our office.  We do charge for taking your electronic waste as it is very expensive to handle responsibly.  Computer Monitors (with cathode ray tubes) are $15 a piece; all other electronic waste is 50 cents a pound.  The Pullman utility tax also applies to these charges.

Sorry!  We no longer accept your household batteries at our recycling center.  The county used to accept the batteries we brought them, but they no longer are taking them.  The only batteries that we are accepting at our recycling center now are rechargeable batteries and automotive batteries.

Household Hazardous Wastes

What Do You Do With Your Used Motor Oil, Paints, Pesticides, and other low level hazardous wastes?  Don't throw them in your regular garbage as this is very harmful to our water supplies!

The Whitman County Household Hazardous Waste [HHW] drop-off facility, located at the landfill/transfer station, allows county households to safely dispose of home, auto, paint, and yard related wastes FREE of charge!  If you're cleaning out the garage and have a bunch of these hazardous materials, bring them to the HHW drop-off facility in clearly labeled or original containers for safe disposal.   A materials exchange table is also available free of charge!

If you don't want to drive to the transfer station site, you may arrange with Pullman Disposal Service to take your HHW materials out to the county site for a small fee.  Call our office at 334-1914 to arrange for this service.   For used motor oil, simply store the oil in a leakproof container, mark it as "used oil" and then set it by your garbage can.  We will take up to 3 gallons of used oil for a charge of $3.00.
